Trim Options

2023 BRZ rear-wheel drive sports car

The BRZ comes in two trim options for 2023: the Premium and Limited. Each trim offers its own unique set of features and options. Here’s a closer look at what each trim has to offer.

  • Premium: Starting at $28,595 MSRP, the Premium is the base model of the BRZ. It comes standard with features such as 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 215/45R-17 summer performance tires, a V-shaped strut-tower bar, LED headlights with automatic height adjustment, incline start assist, adjustable variable front wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise controls, and much more.
  • Limited: With a starting MSRP of $31,095, the Limited is the top-of-the-line BRZ model. It adds features such as larger 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer performance tires, steering-responsive headlights, upgraded audio, heated front seats, and a telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Engine, Performance, and Transmission

A 2.4-liter naturally aspirated horizontally opposed four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine housed under the hood powers the BRZ. Compared with the previous BRZ model’s 2.0-liter engine, this engine is more powerful and responsive, despite being naturally aspirated. It produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque — an increase of 23 ponies and 28 lb-ft of torque from the outgoing model. It’s more than enough to move this lightweight sports car briskly. Interestingly, the 2023 BRZ is the only Subaru that doesn’t offer the brand’s symmetrical all-wheel drive, even as an option. Instead, it’s rear-wheel drive.

The engine pairs with a precision-shifting six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed electronic direct-control automatic. The optional automatic CVT features eight pre-set gear ratios and a manual mode that shift paddles behind the steering wheel operate. Subaru says it’s been retuned for quicker and more decisive shifts. The result is sharper, sportier, and more responsive driving.

Acceleration times have also improved, despite the Subaru tipping the scales at a few pounds heavier than the outgoing model. The 2023 BRZ runs from zero to 60 mph in under six seconds and reaches a quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds at 101 mph, which is a significant improvement over the previous model’s 14.9 seconds at 97 mph.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Subaru has always been a brand synonymous with safety, and the all-new Subaru BRZ is no exception. Subaru’s EyeSight suite of safety tech is standard on the BRZ and includes features such as lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring is only available on the top-of-the-line Limited edition.

In addition, Subaru has equipped all models with its Starlink Safety and Security System, which offers automatic collision notification, remote services, vehicle diagnostic alerts, stolen vehicle recovery, and other features.

Over the years, the Subaru BRZ has become one of the few sports cars that’s industry leading in terms of safety. The 2023 BRZ has a sterling report card from the IIHS and is a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award winner. So, not only is the BRZ a blast to drive, but it’s also one of the safest cars you can buy.

Handling and Ride Quality

One thing that makes the BRZ so unique is its exceptional handling and ride quality. The 2023 model is no different, thanks in part to its track-tested suspension and Torsen limited-slip differential. These features, along with its aerodynamic design and low center of gravity, make the BRZ a joy to drive both on and off the track.

The 2023 BRZ also features an improved adaptive track mode that Subaru has added to the stability control system. This mode allows you to push the car harder while maintaining optimal grip and traction.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2023 BRZ features an all-new infotainment system that’s significantly more user friendly and feature rich than the outgoing model. The new system, which you control via a large 8.0-inch touchscreen display, is based on Subaru’s Starlink platform. Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, and satellite radio are all standard.

Interior and Exterior Styling

The BRZ’s interior is also new for 2023 and features a completely redesigned driver-centric cockpit. The 2+2 layout remains, but Subaru has opened up the cabin to create a more spacious and airy feel. The automaker has also redesigned the seats to offer even more support and comfort, particularly the heavily bolstered front seats. The newly redesigned center stack now houses a more intuitive infotainment screen, while the interior features premium materials and finishes, giving the BRZ a more upscale feel.

On the outside, the 2023 Subaru BRZ gets a new aerodynamic design that helps it cut through the air more efficiently. The front end features a lower hood line, though the carmaker has retained the signature Subaru trapezoidal grille. The updated headlights now feature LED steering responsive headlights, while the taillights have a C cut-out design. The BRZ rides on new 18-inch wheels that are both stylish and functional. Overall, the changes give the BRZ a more aggressive and sportier look that’s sure to turn heads.

The all-new Subaru BRZ is an excellent option for anyone in the market for a rear-wheel drive sports car that’s stylish and fun to drive. It offers power and performance, along with a long list of standard advanced tech features. Whether you opt for manual or automatic transmission, the BRZ is sure to put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel.
