Subaru Safety Technology New in The 2023 Subaru Line-up

June 20th, 2023 by

Subaru continues to lead the industry in producing reliable, high-quality, fun-to-drive vehicles. Subaru vehicles also have one of the lowest cost-of-ownership rates in the business, so we shouldn’t be surprised that the company has the most loyal customers. Moreover, Subaru currently has one of the most capable lineups available, which we expect will continue to drive the brand’s success.

Another often overlooked element of Subaru’s popularity is its safety technology. The company has invested vast amounts of research and development dollars into its suite of safety systems. However, many drivers don’t fully understand the value of these systems, so we asked our safety system experts to review these features to help you learn. Now considered must-have tech, Subaru provides its EyeSight suite of driver-assist tech with every vehicle. These systems use advanced optical sensors, cameras, and radars to elevate your Fort Worth commute and improve safety.

As a result, these systems have been proven to reduce driver fatigue and stress while reducing rear-end accidents with injuries by 85%. As a result, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety endorses Subaru EyeSight by awarding it the highest possible front crash protection systems rating.

Adaptive Cruise Control

At a minimum, you have Subaru’s adaptive cruise control, which enhances your standard cruise control. Once you set your speed, the system automatically adjusts your distance to the vehicle ahead as it slows, even to a complete stop. Then, when the traffic clears, the system returns you to your preset speed.

Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control

Some models feature the advanced adaptive cruise control system, which applies a subtle steering input to keep your Subaru centered within marked highway lanes. As a result, you can enjoy reduced fatigue on long commutes.

Lane-Keep Assist

Lane-keep assist tracks your Subaru when you’re driving on marked highways using optical sensors mounted high on your windshield. The system can detect when you drift and alert you with visual and audio cues, improving reaction times.

Pre-Collision Braking

A combination of radar and cameras scans the way forward. These detection devices alert you about cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and other obstacles so you can react quickly. If you fail to respond to system alerts, the system engages emergency braking to help mitigate or avoid a possible collision.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

This system works with your pre-collision braking. When it detects an imminent collision, the system automatically reduces throttle input to help reduce vehicle speed and limit the severity of an impact.

DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation

This intelligent system acts as your co-pilot, alerting you when it detects drowsy or distracted behavior. It can also learn up to five driver profiles, further enhancing safety for you and your family.

Blind-Spot Detection

Subaru mounts sensors that scan the sides and back of your vehicle. When these sensors detect a car in or near your blind spots, they alert you with alert lights on your side view mirrors and your infotainment screen.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

This system uses similar technology to the car’s other driver-assist features. It alerts you when vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists approach you from either side while you back up.

Subaru STARLINK Services

Engineered to enhance your ownership experience, Subaru STARLINK unlocks a bevy of safety and security services. You can access STARLINK through your infotainment touchscreen, home computer, and smartphone app anywhere you have cellular service.

STARLINK Concierge

This feature offers immediate assistance with other activities so you can focus on driving. For instance, you can reserve a table at a nearby restaurant, buy tickets to a local sporting event, book a hotel room, or find the nearest gas or charging station.

And once you’ve asked for help, STARLINK will give you turn-by-turn directions to your destination through your in-vehicle navigation system. STARLINK also lets you schedule a service at your preferred Subaru dealership.

STARLINK Driver Management

You can also manage the different people driving your Subaru with STARLINK. For example, you can set up alerts for boundary violations, exceeding speed limits, and breaking curfews to help educate teen drivers about the rules of the road and give them experience. You can send these alerts as push notifications to your smartphone using the MySubaru app.

STARLINK Automatic Collision Notification

When the unthinkable happens, STARLINK can provide immediate help 24/7. For example, when the system detects a collision, STARLINK automatically connects you with a customer care advisor through the in-vehicle audio system. A live person will contact you and, if necessary, contact emergency services. They’ll also stay on the line with you until help arrives.

STARLINK Vehicle Health

STARLINK delivers up-to-the-minute vehicle health reports for critical systems to help you keep your Subaru running in peak condition. In addition, STARLINK provides reminders for scheduled maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations. You also receive alerts when warning lights activate, including comprehensive descriptions and recommended courses of action.

STARLINK Security

When a vehicle alarm activates, STARLINK alerts you through the app on your phone. In seconds, you can check on your vehicle and contact the police if necessary. If your car is stolen, STARLINK has a stolen vehicle recovery system that can shut down your Subaru and notify police of its location, resulting in a quick recovery.

STARLINK Emergency Assistance

You’re only one push of a button away from connecting to emergency help. Pressing the blue “i” button on the overhead console puts you in contact with non-emergency roadside assistance, and the red “SOS” button connects you to a live customer care advisor if you need emergency attention.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

Subaru drivers appreciate the added safety of the advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. In addition, this legendary system provides exceptional traction and control. Subaru achieves an optimal weight distribution by placing the AWD system in the vehicle’s centerline and connecting it to the BOXER engine and drivetrain. This configuration allows for the smooth transfer of power to all four wheels.
