What Can We Expect in the 2024 Subaru Outback?

We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 2024 Outback on our lot here at Hiley Subaru, and we anticipate having them available in the fall. Luckily, Subaru has provided us with plenty of information about what to expect with the 2024 model, and it looks like this year’s Outback will continue with many of the crowd-pleasing features we’ve all grown to love in the past. The newest Outback will be available in nine trim levels to accommodate everyone’s needs and budgets. All of them come standard with symmetrical all-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission, features that we’ve come to expect from almost every Subaru on the market. The standard engine is a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, and an upgraded 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter engine is found on two trim levels. Towing capacity is impressive for a midsize crossover SUV, starting at 2,700 pounds for the base engine and reaching 3,500 pounds with the turbocharged one.

What’s Different About the 2024 Subaru Outback?

As we mentioned, the 2024 model won’t get any major overhauls from last year’s model. The only change you can expect will be the exterior of the 2024 Outback Wilderness trim. Next year’s Wilderness model will receive a restyled front fascia with a more prominent grille, an updated front bumper, and LED fog lights. The new model will also introduce wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Outback. Finally, the heated steering wheel previously available on the highest trim levels is now standard on the Outback Onyx Edition, Onyx Edition XT, Wilderness, Touring, Limited XT, and Touring XT trims. The lack of major changes to next year’s Outback doesn’t mean you’ll see an outdated vehicle. The 2024 Outback promises to be just as impressive and exciting as any SUV debuting later this year.

What Are the Trim Levels of the 2024 Subaru Outback?

Let’s dig into the various trim levels on the newest Outback, all geared toward meeting everything you could want. The availability of so many is one of the features that help make the Outback so versatile. Whether you’re looking for a basic midsize SUV with excellent safety features and great gas mileage or whether you’re in the market for all of that, plus a more luxurious feel, the Outback has what you’re looking for.

Outback Base

The Base model is anything but basic, featuring steering wheel paddle shifters, X-Mode hill-descent control, and active torque vectoring that helps to improve stability. It also features auto vehicle hold, a unique feature that holds the Outback in place after a stop, eliminating the need for drivers to keep their foot on the brake while waiting for a light to change. Standard features of Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist suite include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Outback Premium

The Premium trim level builds on the foundation of the Base model, adding a few upgrades that help make driving even more convenient. For starters, the driver’s seat is upgraded to a 10-way power-adjustable version, making it easier than ever for the driver to stay comfortable. The infotainment system is an 11.6-inch touch screen that makes finding the controls you’re looking for a snap. The Premium trim also comes standard with the All-Weather package, including heated side mirrors, heated front seats, and front wiper deicers.

Outback Onyx Edition

If you want a little stylistic flair, the Onyx Edition features 18-inch black wheels, black exterior trim, and a Crystal Black Silica rear roof spoiler. Performance is also enhanced thanks to Dual-Mode X-Mode with settings for snow/dirt and deep snow/mud.

Outback Onyx Edition XT

The Onyx Edition XT is a clone of the Onyx Edition but includes a turbocharged engine, a 180-degree front camera, an eight-way power passenger seat, heated rear seats, and a full-size spare tire.

Outback Limited

The Limited is the trim level that starts the transition into the world of luxury. Here you’ll find enhanced features such as a 12-way power driver’s seat with thigh cushion extension and memory settings for the seat and mirrors, perforated leather upholstery, keyless access with push-button start and PIN code access, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Outback Limited XT

The Limited XT mirrors the Limited but adds the turbocharged engine for added performance.

Outback Touring

The Touring is the most luxurious trim level, matching the Limited’s features and adding a front camera monitor, a digital rearview camera mirror, automatic power-folding exterior mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, and a choice of Black or Java Brown nappa leather upholstery.

Outback Touring XT

The Touring XT adds the turbocharged engine to the Touring edition.

Outback Wilderness

The Wilderness is the most rugged Outback, equipped for off-road adventures with heavy-duty suspension and 9.5 inches of ground clearance. The Wilderness includes engine skid plate protection, height-adjustable LED headlights, front and rear bumper tow points, hexagon pattern LED fog lights, and reinforced roof rails capable of supporting the weight of a roof-top tent.
