What’s New With the 2024 Subaru Impreza?

Subaru has made several key modifications to the 2024 Impreza, including standardizing the continuously variable transmission (CVT) on every trim level. Moreover, the all-new model will only be offered in a five-door hatchback body style, which is something that’s likely to impress Subaru WRX fans.

The Impreza’s updated exterior shares certain design elements with the most recent WRX and Crosstrek models, but it looks noticeably more refined than its stablemates. A tapered nose, steeply raked windshield, and a fast-sloping roofline contribute to its sleek and athletic profile. On the inside, design changes give the hatchback a similar look and feel to other new Subaru models, especially the Crosstrek. Additionally, for the first time, it will get an available 11.6-inch Starlink touch-screen display, which will be standard on the Sport and RS trims.

After a long hiatus, the RS returns to add a sporty appeal to the Impreza. Besides a more potent engine, the performance-oriented model comes with exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels, artificial carbon fiber interior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum-alloy pedal covers, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, and USB charging ports for rear passengers.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Similar to its predecessor, the 2024 Subaru Impreza offers a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque as standard equipment. If you want a more spirited driving experience, consider going for the new RS model, which uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that provides power bumps of 30 horsepower and 33 lb-ft of torque. Every model comes with CVT, all-wheel drive, and Active Torque Vectoring.

Furthermore, Subaru equipped the next-gen Impreza with a variant of the WRX’s dual-pinion electric power steering rack to further enhance its rally racing sportiness. The automaker also claims that the compact car’s chassis stiffness has been increased by 10%, which means that you’ll enjoy better handling and ride quality.

Fuel Economy

The fuel economy rating of the new Subaru Impreza hasn’t been released. However, since the base and Sport trims carry over the standard four-cylinder engine, they should deliver the same EPA rating as the current five-door hatchback that’s fitted with CVT, which is 28 mpg and 36 mpg for city and highway, respectively.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The 2024 Impreza features Subaru’s trademark interior design, which is known to favor function over form. The hatchback comes standard with a dual-zone automatic climate control system, so you can expect to have a comfortable ride even in extreme weather conditions. It also offers 60/40 folding rear seats on every trim, which allows you to store long or bulky items in your car. Cargo specifications aren’t available yet, but the new model should provide about 20.8 cubic feet of storage space behind its back seats, given its similar dimensions to its predecessor.

For the new Impreza, Subaru focused on creating a more ergonomic front seat design and hushing the cabin for enhanced comfort and relaxation. With a total interior volume of 120.9 cubic feet, this hatchback is expected to have ample legroom and headroom in both rows of seats, even though it continues to be a five-passenger car. Subaru hasn’t announced the seat upholstery color options for the base and Sport trims, but the RS gets black premium sport cloth seats with red accents and contrast stitching as well as aluminum sport pedals.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Subaru’s Starlink multimedia system comes standard on the Sport and RS trims of the 2024 Impreza. It’s compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, it offers an 11.6-inch touch-screen display with controls for the air conditioner, sound system, and other functions. On top of that, Starlink-equipped models feature Subaru’s Safety and Security services, which includes SOS Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, and Remote Vehicle Locator.

Also, the Subaru hatchback is fitted with an auxiliary input jack, a USB-C port, and a USB-A port, so you can connect all kinds of mobile devices to your car. If you choose the top-tier RS model, you’ll have access to the available10-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, which can significantly improve your in-vehicle experience.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Another appealing aspect of the 2024 Impreza is that it comes equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on all three trims. This suite of safety systems includes automated pre-collision braking, which applies full braking force to completely stop your car when it senses an impending collision. It also has lane-keep assist to help you stay within the same lane and rear cross-traffic alert to detect obstacles behind your car when you’re backing up. EyeSight is also capable of monitoring traffic movement and optimizing cruise control.

A new optional driver aid that’s worth mentioning is the automatic emergency steering system, which can help you avoid collisions by taking over control of the steering wheel and brakes. This feature will be included on models equipped with the available blind-spot monitoring system, which is bundled with lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert. All these technologies are standard on the new RS trim.
